“8+2” NO-BRAINER TIPS FOR PLAYING Baptiste

Finally, we have a new high skill-cap support hero to play with in Overwatch. Baptiste just hit the streets and we can already see that the term “battle-medic” is certainly true for this fella. The amount of damage you can dish out with your burst rifle should not be underestimated, especially if you throw your Amplification Matrix on top of that, while also being able to heal multiple targets rapidly makes playing Baptiste an absolute blast. Mastering him is not going to be easy though since his mechanical and game sense related skill cap are both incredibly high.

General tips

  • One of the first things that you should do as a Baptist player is making sure you have your automatic reloading disabled in the options menu for the hero. Baptist has a separate command for this to avoid reloading if you happen to empty your heal grenades, but still, want to shoot around with your primary fire or vica versa.
  • Practicing your raw mechanical skills, especially tracking aim is extremely important as Baptist since you have a hitscan burst rifle with. Hitting your shots accurately is even more important in combination with your Amplification Matrix ultimate, you will be surprised how fast you can melt enemy heroes.
  • When it comes to your healing Biotic Grenades, you want to make sure to aim it at your allies feet. Hitting a hero with the grenade itself is not efficient at all, connecting your shots will be unreliable, it has way more value to just spam your grenades under them and heal multiple targets at the same time with the splash radius.
  • Exo Boots are probably one of the strongest movement abilities in the game due to it being passive and spammable. You should always prioritize playing from high ground to avoid damage better, and also to help you heal multiple allies at the same time with your Biotic Launcher as well as precise Immortality Fields from above. Even if you have to drop down to use your Regenerative Burst, you can instantly hop back up.

Hero specific tips

  • Regenerative Burst is not your primary tool for healing, that is your Biotic Launcher, but using the quick burst of heal in key situations is really important. Make sure you are extremely comfortable with the radius and set up your team for a push and help them survive longer team fights. Regenerative Burst is, however, your only tool to heal yourself, so keep this in mind.
  • Immortality Field is your bread and butter ability, it can completely turn fights in an instant. It is not only great at countering Graviton Surges and Earthshatters (you can dodge these with Exo Boots if you pay attention), but it also serves as a self-peeling tool. Saving your whole team from big combos definitely has more value usually, but don’t hesitate to save yourself from flankers if need be.
  • Knowing Amplification Matrix interactions is important in case you have the chance to place it for your team instead of just for yourself. Ana is basically the only other support who benefits from the extra heal, so prioritize damage dealers whenever possible. Also keep in mind that beam damage (Zarya’s primary, Symmetra’s primary, Winston’s Tesla Cannon) doesn’t get buffed by the wall either.
  • It is generally the easiest to use your Amplification Matrix mostly for yourself. If you aim well, you will have time to kill one or two targets while also burst healing your team a few times before the matrix’s duration is over. If you really want to combo your matrix with an ally, it should be either a McCree or Soldier who are positioned near you, dropping your Amplification Matrix in the middle of the fight to try and help offtanks and divers is really hit or miss.

+1

  • Whenever you charge up your Exo Boots, it lingers on for an additional second, enabling you to walk around and decide if you want to jump away or not. This is immensely useful for dodging and mind games, especially in a 1 on 1 duel with a flanker.

+2

  • Ashe’s Dynamite is super nice to combo with your Amplification Matrix. It not only buffs the initial explosion damage but also doubles the damage over time part of the ability!

That’s about it, just hone your mechanics to reach your potential as a damage dealer, and pay attention for clutch moments with your Immortality Field! Reacting to strong team fight ultimates with your abilities can completely turn a fight around, so embrace the fact that Baptiste is really strong in a coordinated team environment, while also decent enough to carry as a solo.
