“8 + 2” no-brainer tips for playing Moira

Moira joined the support hero pool as a breath of fresh air among other characters without real offensive potential, apart from Zenyatta. Although you can be aggressive with this hero (and you actually have to be), that doesn’t mean you can’t help your team with your insane burst healing abilities. Moira is all about duality; healing your friends and dealing damage to enemies are equally important goals. Thankfully, we also have a spammable movement ability that helps us reach our full potential.

General Tips

  • You have to pay attention to your heal targets. You have the ability to heal multiple targets for insane amounts in a short period of time, but you also need to look out for your heal meter to the right of your crosshair.
  • Be mindful about using your Fade ability. Spamming it can be tempting due to the 6 seconds cooldown, but you want to focus on using it as an escape tool most of the time. Occasionally you can use to engage or to gap close when you want to reach a low hp ally, but be very mindful about that.
  • Coalescence can feel a bit underwhelming at certain times. Try to use it in situations when you are out of your heal juice, or if you lost an offense hero in the beginning of a fight and you want to make up for the lost dps. Also, don’t forget you can’t use Fade while Coalescence is active!
  • Using your heal and damage orb have different nuances. The heal orb heals for 300 health point, while the damage orb damages for 200. You want to avoid throwing your damage orb to a group of enemies, as it will mostly just annoy them without dealing big damage. Instead, use it when dueling someone, throw it in narrow spaces. You want to prioritize your heal orb though in most situations.

Hero specific tips

  • A D.Va on the enemy team can be really hard to play against, as she can eat both of your orbs. Focus more on healing your own team instead of throwing offensive orbs, as they are just gonna be eaten. D.Va can’t do anything with your right click damage, so it can be a good idea to charge your heal meter off of her.
  • Playing with or against a Zarya can set up your Coalescence nicely when one of them drops her Graviton Surge. If it is a friendly one, you can burst multiple enemies at the same time while providing a bit of healing as well. On the other hand, if the enemy Zarya uses her Graviton, you can keep your teammates alive while also dealing a bit of damage to others
  • A decent Pharah is always going to outclass you. It is a sad situation, but you might want to consider switching to an other support hero if you find yourself against a Pharah.
  • In general you want to run Moira in slow moving Tank-heavy lineups. Sticking together and pushing as a unit translates into you having an insane healing output. Make sure you pair her with a support hero with a defensive ultimate.

+1

  • Fade jumping can help you gain some vertical height. You need to look for a raised object on the map, and while your fade is active, you want to press jump right at the moment of reaching that raised object (like the well on the middle of Temple of Anubis point A).

+2

  • When Sombra hacks you, you still lifesteal from your right click, so don’t be afraid to try and damage her, while you wait for your mates to peel for you.

Generally, you want to focus on Moira’s defensive side. The option to go balls deep and dive the enemy team is there, and we know it can be tempting, but if you want to use the hero in the most useful way, prioritize your team mates’ well-being over that gold medal on elimination.
