“8+2” NO-BRAINER TIPS FOR PLAYING SOLDIER-76

Ever wondered why is Soldier:76 the first character you’re introduced to in Overwatch’s tutorial?

Well, he represents the most familiar shooter archetype amongst all the heroes of the game. Although his kit might be simple and familiar, his many-sided pack of capabilities makes him a deadly pick in just about any scenario.

A good Soldier:76 will easily help the team with his firepower, self-healing – which can be extended to teammates if they are nearby -, and an ultimate that’s so deadly, when used correctly, it can potentially eliminate a big chunk of the opponent team in a matter of seconds.

When it comes to strategy our hero can fulfil any role with great confidence. Soldier:76 is an offence hero and what he can do the best is constant damage from his team’s frontline, regardless if it is escorting the payload or defending a capture point. His entire kit has been built around this idea.

OMNICoach has summarized “ 8 + 2 “ no-brainer tips on how to extract the most out of all his abilities, that we think should ensure you come out on top in a fight and gun the enemy team down with ease.

General tips

  • Generally your job when playing Soldier:76 is to control space, apply constant pressure and if possible help and support your team’s healer. Flanking is for other heroes, like Tracer, so leave the opportunity for them to attack the enemy’s back line. You should stay in front and stress out the opponent team.
  • You should use your sprint ability whenever you can and it’s available. It gives you mobility and can allow you to reach the frontline much quicker.
  • Try to attack with your ultimate from an unexpected direction and whenever possible exploit the advantage of attacking from height. If you position yourself right your ultimate can comfortably wipe an entire team. Although it doesn’t give additional damage, so use it against enemies that are unaware of where you are, or those with low health.
  • When using tactical visor aim for low health heroes as you can gun them down quicker than other characters. Tactical visor will always aim for a players body, not their head.

Character specific tips

  • Positioning your crosshair is still important when using tactical visor. Even though you have auto-aiming activated it works better if you are moving it close to your low-health targets and away from tanks or shields.
  • Don’t forget that biotic field radiates out of a device. What this means for you is that you can place it on a moving object like the payload, and it can travel with the team and heal them in the meantime.
  • It is good to know that firing with your pulse rifle is more accurate when you do it in smaller bursts, specially if you are aiming for far away enemies – as the rifle gets more inaccurate the longer you hold down fire.
  • Be aware that your damage falloff is a 30m range. Keeping this is mind try to avoid getting too close to heroes with abilities which can reach you like Roadhog’s hook, which has a 20m distance range.

+1

One of the best strategies of using helix rockets is to use it against squishy targets. Why? Instead of firing them into robust enemies with a lot of health and doing just a little damage, launch the rockets aiming for the low-health heroes and kill them quickly with high efficiency.

+2

If you really want to fire your helix rocket on more powerful enemies do it while tactical visor is active. Auto-aiming will help you take the most from the enemies health bar.

Soldier:76 does solid damage, he can get to a fight quickly and he is also able to heal himself and his teammates too. This very good combination of abilities makes him a popular hero to pick and also enables him to perform well in any mode.
