“8 + 2” no-brainer tips for playing Tracer

Tracer is the face of Overwatch. Playing her to a good standard isn’t for the faint-hearted. She has one of the game’s most innovative and exciting ability kits. Tracer is always moving and that makes her particularly tricky to play.

She is usually getting into situations where you need to outwit your opponent to win the fight and use her abilities correctly to become a virtual nightmare for the enemy team.

Here are OMNICoach’s 8 + 2 tips on how to play Tracer

General tips

  • Tracer is a flanker, meaning that this heroine should look for openings in the enemy team and exploit these. Look for the weak spot in the enemy team, like an opponent with really low health or a mispositioned enemy hero who can not get help from the team.
  • When you play Tracer you should embrace tactical patience. Her abilities allow her to do a huge amount of damage, however, you need to measure the risk and reward and should not jump into situations where you may not gain much for risking your well being. Stay safe until you see an opportunity to go in.
  • Use terrain to hide from the enemy shots. Tracer is a really fast character, so peeking in and out of cover can be easily done. Try to use walls and stairs to gain a bit more advantage over your enemy and do some extra damage. However, pay attention not to give out your positioning when going for a surprise attack.
  • Control your abilities smartly. When playing Tracer you generally want to try to go into a fight with 2-3 blinks and a recall available. If you don’t have blinks, you won’t be able to maneuver around your enemy, and without a recall, you only have one chance at killing your enemy. Try to move on feet in order to preserve resources as much as you can.

Character specific tips

  • Low health makes Tracer an easy target, so you need to be aware of the whereabouts of health packs during duels. You need to be able to traverse to the closest health pack without even looking at that direction. This can save your life in a lot of situations.
  • If the opposing team is Tank heavy, you should try to work around the edges of fights. Tracer can comfortably win most 1 on 1 ’s fights after baiting out critical abilities, so pick your encounters cleverly. Diving into a team fight can often result in sudden death.
  • On Capture Point maps, Tracer is particularly effective. Her speed often allows her to race far ahead of an enemy team to cap early.
  • A good tactic – especially against though enemies – if you use Tracers abilities as a bundle. Just Blink close to the enemy, drop the Pulse Bomb and Recall out. Makes it safe, but can be wasteful in certain situations, use your judgement.

+1

Tracer can reload while blinking. Go for an enemy, use every bullet in the clip, and blink away while reloading.

+2

Tracer can also use the ultimate while blinking. Ultimate into blink makes it really easy to stick targets if they are relatively still. Practice this to land most of your Pulse Bombs!

To become a good Tracer player you need to practice a lot and understand her abilities very well. She can be a difficult hero to play, though she is equally satisfying once you mastered how to exploit her talents.
